The joys of traveling are limitless, but meeting new people around the world has to be at the top of my list. In the last year, my job had me working at Le Soleil d’Or Luxury Boutique Hotel & Rentals on the beautiful island of Cayman Brac – one of the three islands that make up the Cayman Islands. It’s here I met Laura Sangster, Caribbean travel advisor and founder of The Mango Seed. We immediately hit it off, sharing in our passion for the Caribbean, which she shares on her blog, The Mango Seed, highlighting travel destinations, that so happen to be where mangos can grow. Genius! Having grown up spending time on my father’s mango farm, I was ecstatic when she asked if she could interview me, getting the details on why I started Traveling in Heels and what travel destination has surprised me the most.
Here’s a little sneak peek of the interview. Be sure to click through to read the rest of it on The Mango Seed and get the scoop on what’s to come for Traveling in Heels.
Q: What inspired you to start Traveling in Heels?
A: In 2009 I moved to Venice, Italy and Bilbao, Spain to work for the Guggenheim Foundation, which resulted in some amazing travel all throughout Europe. When I first told my friends and family about my plans, they didn’t share in my excitement. Everyone thought I was insane to just leave my life behind and skip town. I was disappointed at their lack of enthusiasm, but it didn’t stop me.
I realized though other women do need that support, that encouragement and inspiration to set off on their own adventures. I started Traveling-in-Heels to document my journey, as proof to my female counterparts that you can travel the world, and do so, as fabulous as you are. My friends and family eventually came around and are some of my biggest supporters today.
I decided to call the blog Traveling-in-Heels because no matter where my adventures took me, I always packed at least one pair of heels with me. Every trip should have at least one chic moment.
I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little more intimately. Read the rest of the interview on The Mango Seed. Enjoy!
